FAQ
Quality Education
Education is also critical to the development of Bangladesh since it provides the individuals with the skills and knowledge needed for the betterment of the country. It nurtures new ideas, critical analysis, and problemsolving skills so that learners can function effectively in a rapidly changing world. For the mass, quality education leads to the reduction of poverty as people can secure better employment increasing their living standards. In Bangladesh, which has a large portion of the population who are economically disadvantaged, it is a significant means of lifting or empowering oneself, particularly in marginalized groups. Furthermore, quality education helps achieve gender equality, curbs child labor, increases political participation, which are all vital towards creating a fairer and more productive society. With these actions in place, the country guarantees the future of the people as it will be possible to innovate and come up with development plans for the future of Bangladesh.
Climate Action
Climate change is one such phenomenon that cannot be ignored, and for Bangladesh, acting on this is even more of an imperative. Indeed, as the most climate vulnerable country, its people face significant problems like floods, droughts, sea level rise, and tropical cyclones. These adverse effects put millions of people and food sources at risk. Nevertheless, Bangladesh is being characterized as a new nation aiming to capitalize on climate change impacts. It is working towards becoming a model for other countries through implementation of programs, such as community based disaster management, integrated coastal zone management and ecosystem based management.
This compares quite favorably with the approach taken within the perspective of the climate economy of Bangladesh – where opportunities for employment provision in green-collar jobs, investment in renewable energy and climate friendly development are encouraged. Green economy growth envisaged here will generate poverty-proof income while avoiding carbon emissions in the processes.
Work for Better Society (WBS) also believes this a good time to strengthen the Organisation’s efforts to contribute to the climate movement. In the future, WBS intends to concentrate on empowering communities for the adoption of environment-friendly farming practices, promoting renewable energy in rural regions and cooperating with global networks for climate advocacy. WBS hopes to help Bangladesh shift into a climate ресонибель country by strengthening local peoples influence and changing policy.
Public Health
Public health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and improving health through organized efforts of society. Its importance lies in the fact that it is very critical to the causes of diseases; it helps in leading healthy lifestyles and improves systems of health care as well as prevents outbreaks. In Bangladesh, because of high population density, frequent natural disasters, and diseases such as dengue, tuberculosis, and malnutrition, public health initiatives are of prime importance. Investing in public health saves lives, strengthens the nation’s workforce, reduces healthcare costs, and ensures long-term sustainable development. Our NGO, Work for Better Society, advocates for strong public health infrastructure that creates healthier communities, resilience, and better livelihoods for all Bangladeshis.
Youth Development
Youth development is important in Bangladesh, given the fact that around 47 percent of the population is under 25 years old, and all this needs investment in demographic growth for inclusive national development. The major problems besetting the youth are high unemployment rates, lack of access to quality education, and limited participation in decision-making mechanisms. The unemployment rate, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, is much higher than the national average at around 12% among the youths aged 15-29 years. This can be positively tapped by engaging them in targeted programs on skill development, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement, thus giving them the surety that they contribute meaningfully to society.
In the backdrop of these challenges, Work for Better Society is committed to fostering youth empowerment through comprehensive initiatives. Vocational training centers-especially attuned to the market demand-will be established in order to equip them with relevant practical skills and, accordingly, increase their employability. The WBS also purports to avail opportunities for effective involvement of youths in governance and community development processes by creating space for them to express views and actively participate in shaping their futures. WBS would, therefore, in partnership with local governments, as well as other stakeholders, provide mentorship and conduct awareness campaigns for their own benefit so that, hopefully, a more empowered and resilient youth population will finally be allowed to emerge in Bangladesh.
Human Rights & Empowerment
The issues of human rights and empowerment are considered very important within the context of Bangladesh, given the struggles of the country with gender inequality, child labor, and freedom of expression. According to the UN Human Rights Office, more than 9 million children in Bangladesh are engaged in work that is threatening the future of schooling and undermining their potential. Empowerment of the most marginalized communities, especially women and girls, will, therefore, be at the core of the social justice and economic development processes. It is for this reason that the UN reports, “Empowerment of women and girls is indispensable in attaining sustainable development” (UN Women, 2020), pinpointing the necessity for such initiatives which would effect change in realizing gender equality and human rights. NGOs especially have an important advocacy role to play for the realization of these rights through implementing community education and mobilization programs, thus building a more just and equitable society in Bangladesh.
Communication for Social Change (CSC)
Communication for Social Change (CSC) is important for resolving most of the sociopolitical problems in Bangladesh. It includes seeking constructive changes in society through communication and interaction. It is especially relevant in Bangladesh for alleviating poverty and empowering the society, given the socio-economic levels of most of the populace. Through participatory communication, the disadvantaged people can express their opinions and contribute to decisions that affect them, which is quite rare in Third World countries especially in rural areas due to lack of informational and material resources.
Promotion of gender equality is one of the key aspects of CSC in which a significant contribution can be made. In Bangladesh, there are certain barriers to women’s ability to pursue opportunities due to cultural gender roles. In this context, communication does help to educate the community on women’s rights and change norms. In the same line, health communication is of a great importance for enhancing the health of people. Campaigns on promotion of maternal health, sanitation, nutrition, etc need to be implemented in order to minimize the maximum number of deaths and diseases that could have been avoided.
Both, the environmental issues as well as the people’s socio-political instability went hand in hand. Bangladesh has suffered a great deal from climate change above and beyond people’s capacities to adapt. Herein lies the reason why CSC should be used, to inform locals about climate change, disaster management and environmentally safe practices.
Contribution of WBS to CSC
Now What?
Work for Better Society (WBS) has possibilities of advocating communication initiatives as a tool for social change throughout Bangladesh. WBS should consider the dissemination of information from their perspective in order to avoid repeating pleasant communication strategies to encourage the community, such as community dialogue or focus group discussions. This will allow WBS to identify the different needs of different communities and adapt its programs.
Collaborating with the local civil societies, government, and international bodies may be critical for enhancing WBS’s utilization. This will ensure that efforts are not duplicated in the realization of national priorities which include sustainable development goals. In addition, WBS can receive requests from community leaders who are unable to communicate these needs and provide them training in basic communication.
Lastly, WBS is likely to also engage in collection of the success stories of both WBS and other organizations splintered on making change. WBS can also engage in telling others the way they have used communication to bring about change. All these activities contribute towards WBS making a significant impact on transforming society into a better one in Bangladesh.
