Youth Development

Youth development is important in Bangladesh, given the fact that around 47 percent of the population is under 25 years old, and all this needs investment in demographic growth for inclusive national development. The major problems besetting the youth are high unemployment rates, lack of access to quality education, and limited participation in decision-making mechanisms. The unemployment rate, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, is much higher than the national average at around 12% among the youths aged 15-29 years. This can be positively tapped by engaging them in targeted programs on skill development, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement, thus giving them the surety that they contribute meaningfully to society. In the backdrop of these challenges, Work for Better Society is committed to fostering youth empowerment through comprehensive initiatives. Vocational training centers-especially attuned to the market demand-will be established in order to equip them with relevant practical skills and, accordingly, increase their employability. The WBS also purports to avail opportunities for effective involvement of youths in governance and community development processes by creating space for them to express views and actively participate in shaping their futures. WBS would, therefore, in partnership with local governments, as well as other stakeholders, provide mentorship and conduct awareness campaigns for their own benefit so that, hopefully, a more empowered and resilient youth population will finally be allowed to emerge in Bangladesh.
